Big ideas from the Big EIT and TM seminar!

Have you attended the online seminar hosted by EIT Urban Mobility RIS Hub Malta and Transport Malta? Well, we got you covered on some interesting insight from the event!

2021_EMW_Heart_White (1).pngVarious areas of safe and sustainable travel was mentioned, with special interest in proactive applications to our localities!
Some word of praise was also mentioned for those localities which are participating in the European Sustainable Mobility Week, as it was noted that 6 small events where hosted in Malta for this special week, and another 16 permanent measures to regulate traffic and create safer neighborhoods were applied for!

The Mayor of Zejtun Doris Abela also shared her personal experience when shifting her daily commute from a car to a bicycle, as she praised the ease, commodity and health benefits. This especially applies to small towns with very olden roads, that weren't designed with cars in mind. To this her response was to facilitate correct traffic management in such spots, while also attempting to reduce large vehicle access into central parts of town.
This concept was further discussed as the '15-minute city' which is Paris' urban planning of choice. This would allow for residents to have access to amenities within 15 minutes -promoting to walk more and deterring from the ride to their destination. Some features like having schools within this range wouldn't work as well in Malta, hence other additional ideas like designing cycling highways for bike users exclusively would make travel to major areas in our live accessible through forms of active mobility!

Stay tuned for more ideas on the Seminar and other posts related to the European Mobility Week!
